This will be my fifth year teaching at Pizitz. I have taught middle school English a total of nine years. During this time, I have found three truths: 1) Work hard, so you can play hard. 2) It is never boring. 3)It is new each day. Middle schoolers make me laugh, and I hope that in some way that I can make them laugh a time or two as well.
I am originally from Cullman, AL. My parents had five biological children and then, decided to adopt my youngest sister and me. After high school, I headed to Florence and attended the University of North Alabama. My original major was Chemistry. Crazy right? How did I end up teaching middle school English? After about three years, I decided that this path that I had chosen may not be for me. Did I really want to spend the next few years of my life in a lab? So, my parents gave me one semester to figure it out. I felt panicked. I had always loved English, so I heavily loaded my course selection with American Literature and Shakespeare classes. After that, I never turned back... I was hooked. I loved the debate, the critical nature, the writing even... hold your breath... the grammar.
Since then, I acquired my Master of Arts in Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and I married my college sweetheart. We have been married eight years, and last year, we had our first child, Thomas Andrew Pigg Jr. We love him dearly. Parenting, I have decided is not for the faint of heart haha. We have two fur babies: Toby (goldendoodle) and George (shih- tzu). In our free time, which is not as abundant as it was before baby, we love to travel, read and spend time with friends and family.
Favorite Movie: Midnight in Paris
Favorite Band: Red Hot Chili Peppers
Favorite Munchies: Twizzlers, Reese Cups, Diet Coke and Salt and Vinegar Chips
Favorite Fictional Characters: Scout Finch, Tobias Eaton, Jay Gatsby and Tim Riggins
